Meet Caleigh
I'm Caleigh Cross.
I am a journalist, novelist, occasional painter, and advocate of the Oxford comma.
I love to write. I've been doing it since age five, when I wrote stories with crayon and had them stapled into a folder by my dad. At 17, I published my first novel, Until the End of the World. Shortly thereafter, I went to university, where I developed a passion for journalism. My first year, I wrote for the student newspaper; my second year, I became the editor of the Features section.
Last summer, I got a job writing sports at another local paper. I knew nothing about sports, but I knew enough about writing to know that I wanted to keep doing it, and as Gary Cartwright said in Harper's Magazine, "The best [sports writers] are frustrated writers trapped by circumstances".
Well, here I am.
Turns out I love the job, and, like most Canadians, I love hockey. I follow a women's hockey team and a curling club and have moved on to include profile-writing in my toolbox.
Journalism is the greatest adventure I have embarked upon yet, and success is a wonder of which I've been lucky enough to catch glimpses. I write about everything that leaps to mind.
Please also follow me on Twitter @CaleighCross : I only Tweet interesting and relevant things, I promise.
